Born and raised in Miramichi, Rachael is a Registered Social Worker holding degrees in Health Promotion and Social Work from Dalhousie University. She brings over five years of experience in the non-profit sector with a background including various community health initiatives, resilience-building projects, and a strong passion for supporting survivors of sexual violence.

Rachael began working in this field in 2021 as a volunteer support person with the Jade Centre’s hospital accompaniment program and later completed a social work placement with the organization. Most recently, she served as the Sexual Violence Outreach in Moncton. Now back in her hometown, she’s excited to provide support through Miramichi Safe Harbour Services.

Her approach is trauma-informed and survivor-centered, focusing on flexibility, empowerment, and meeting people where they’re at. Rachael offers confidential, non-judgmental support and can help you navigate complex systems like the hospitals, police, courts, and more. Rachael is also here to connect you with the programs and services you need—whether that means referrals, advocacy, or guiding you through your next steps that might feel overwhelming alone.

MaryEllen is a proud Miramichier with deep roots in her community. Throughout her diverse career, one constant has remained—her commitment to helping others. Whether through leadership roles or direct support, MaryEllen’s passion lies in walking alongside people on their healing journeys, always learning and growing with them.

She is a graduate of both St. Francis Xavier University and the University of New Brunswick. As a Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT) in New Brunswick and a certified member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, MaryEllen brings both professional expertise and heartfelt compassion to her work.

MaryEllen offers specialized counselling for survivors of sexual violence—of all genders and backgrounds—and is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed approaches. She has recently expanded her practice to include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), bringing this powerful, evidence-based modality to her clients. She creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences, access support, and move toward healing at their own pace. She believes strongly in the power of hope, resilience, and recovery.
